What began as a simple act of obedience has unfolded into a chain of miracles that we could never have orchestrated on our own. This is the story of two men, two homes, and a God who wastes nothing.
A roof over a forgotten man
In Bungoma, Kenya, there lived an elderly widower with nothing to his name. Crippled and alone, he slept beneath a roof so deteriorated that rain fell on him through the night. He had no door to close against the cold, no windows, no bed, only the quiet suffering of a man the world had passed by.
Through our partner John Oltukai, director of World Hope Missions Kenya, Bride Arise became aware of his situation. We moved quickly. Together, we provided him with a new roof, windows, and a door, restoring the basic dignity of shelter. We also furnished his home with a proper bed and mattress, a full kitchen cook stove, utensils, and clothing.
When the work was finished, this man gave his life to Christ.
Three witnesses who couldn’t stay silent
The miracle didn’t stop there. The three workers on site had no category for what they were seeing, a stranger caring deeply for a crippled old man no one had thought to help. One by one, they gave their lives to Christ.
One of those men worked at a local radio station. He took the story to the airwaves and shared it with his entire listening community.
A broadcast that became a lifeline
That broadcast reached the ears of a homeless man whose life had fallen apart. His wife and children had left him, unable to remain with a man who could not provide for them. Broken and without hope, he came to John Oltukai with a simple, desperate question: Would God do a miracle for him too?
Before John even had the chance to bring the need forward, God had already begun to move. The man’s estranged father, stirred by something he could not explain, reached out and offered his son a small piece of land to call his own.
With land now in hand, we said yes. We would build him a house.
A community builds a miracle
We didn’t do it alone. We went first to local widows and small businesses, asking if anyone wanted to partner with us to see this miracle through. What came back was breathtaking in its simplicity, a handful of nails from one neighbor, a board of wood from another, a sheet of metal from yet another. Some gave labor. Some gave time. Everyone gave love.
Together, we built the man a house.
Restoration, inside and out
The moment the home was complete, his wife agreed to return bringing their children home with her. The community took notice. People began to see the unmistakable favor of God resting on this man’s life, and he soon found employment, able once again to care for his family with his own hands.
He and his family gave their lives to Christ. And then, one by one, his neighbors and extended family followed, drawn to salvation by the testimony he couldn’t stop sharing.
What a house can carry
These homes are more than structures. They are declarations that no one is forgotten. They are altars where skeptics become believers and broken families are made whole. Every nail driven in faith, every board laid in love, carries the power of the Gospel into places words alone cannot reach.
